Overview

1998 was highlighted by the letting of bids for a new two million gallon water tower. This water tower gives Wisconsin Rapids the additional storage needed to comfortably meet summer demands and provide supply and pressure for fire protection. The two water towers presently being used were built in 1952 and though still serviceable only give us a storage capacity of 800,000 gallons. Completion of the new tower is scheduled for November of 1999.

Water Source

Wisconsin Rapids Water Works and Lighting Commission is supplied by groundwater pumped from four Ranney Collector wells located in the Town of Grand Rapids, and treated at our 16th Street South facility. The water then undergoes treatment for iron removal prior to distribution to your home or business. Wisconsin Rapids has about 146 miles of water main, serving 8000 meters. Daily pumpage averaged 2,825,000 gallons per day.
